A School Mafia!

February 20, 2010

Today’s headlines in the Times of India on our Hon. Education Minister’s statement about unlocking both ends of the school funnel – unregulated fees and unaudited teachers salary – is perhaps the worst news for education in independent India. If there is one thing we ever need to do to reform quality it’s further improving teachers salay!  At the end of the day, a schools actually ‘sells’ teachers time. Ironically, this declaration is the result of the ‘Right to Education’ Act!

Indeed, the very reading of the Act brings the essential design behind the Act – forcing people to necessarily consume a private service (obligating all parents to send their children to school till 14 years of age). In fact, the school system, across the board and without exception, needs this prop to survive. For, schools come as supplements assumed – tuition and coaching is the norm – 99% children in the (so called) best of our schools have to undergo tuition or coaching by the class X. The Act is also going to undo the only threat to the school education – alternative education opportunities – and one which is perfectly legal and supported by the Govt. as of date.

To be honest, I do not have ONE reason to send my 12-year old daughter to school – academics are transacted out of school anyway now and socialisation at school is truly sickening (if you follow your child you will know). SENDING THE CHILDREN TO SCHOOL IS OUR COMPULSIONS – we don’t have alternative engagements for them – it’s definitely not their need.

Hello world!
